4th of July Tablescape

I love using red, white, and blue as colors in my 4th of July tablescape. I set the table early this time because I will be at the Jersey Shore on this patriotic holiday. Then, I took it down and actually put up a Father’s Day one because much of my family made it into town this past Sunday. So I might be a bit obsessed with this time of year. And as I mentioned in my Fun Friday Finds-Entertaining Essentials post and video, a 4th of July tablescape can be used for Memorial Day, 4th of July, and even Labor Day.

As you will see in many of my tablescapes, I prefer to layer lots of interesting items on my tables from pretty tablecloths, to placemats, centerpieces, and more. I think it’s so sweet when my almost four-year-old grandson, Jack sits down at the dining room table and tells me that the table looks “so beautiful”! Frequently, there are little items that the kids love to touch, like beaded necklaces, and battery-operated votives.

Step One (4th of July Tablescape):

Here, I started with a crisp red and white striped tablecloth. Pro-tip: If your tablecloth is a bit small for your table, try placing it on an angle as it will look interesting and deliberate. You could also use a solid white or red cloth as the first layer instead of the striped one.

Step Two (4th of July Tablescape):

Next, I added royal blue placemats at each place setting. This layering of a placemat over the cloth is rich and cozy in its effects. Plus, the blue color really kicks off the red, white, and, the blue color scheme for this patriotic table setting.

Step Three (4th of July Tablescape):

Now, I added red-edged white plates. These are old and from Crate and Barrel. Truly, white plates would work well too. But, I have been so surprised at how often I have used these red-edged ones. I use them for all the summer patriotic holidays, Valentine’s day, and even in some Christmas table settings!

Step Four (4th of July Tablescape)

Here I am folding a red bandana into a knot, to be used as a napkin. I alternated red, white, and blue bandanas all around the table. I added red gingham bows to the candlesticks as well as battery-operated candles. Lastly, I found these flag-themed dessert plates last year at Sur La’Table, but you could achieve a similar effect with these cute paper plates.

Step Five (4th of July Tablescape)

Next, I added red tumblers, flatware, and the first blue bottle of the centerpiece (see below).

Step Six (4th of July Tablescape)

Check out this darling centerpiece! I took five clear cobalt bottles and filled them with red and white carnations. They looked so cute! Pro-tip: Be sure that any tall items on your table are translucent so that everyone can see each other across the table! Lastly, in this photo, I began to layer a few star-shaped garlands around the table for interest.

Step Seven (4th of July Tablescape)

Here, I added a Dollar Store (I think) sparkly garland around the edge of the centerpiece. The table just needed a bit MORE! I also layered in some red and silver star garlands and beads for final touches.

Step Eight (4th of July Tablescape)
