Last week, I met my great brother for a quick lunch in Lake Forest. I wanted to wear a cute summer outfit so I put together this post on How to Combine Sassy Summer Separates. I started with an old pair of Christopher Blue white denim ankle-length jeans and a white (this season) Chico’s cotton v-neck tee.

To elevate the sassiness of all this white, I added a royal blue JCrew cotton cardigan (old), brightly colored floral Keds (from Talbots end of season sale for $18.99!) and a coordinating long silk scarf (old Talbots) that I tied around my waist as a belt.

My purse is a wicker bucket bag (this season) from J McLaughlin and it has a classic rattan handle.

Lastly I added a beaded bracelet in the same colors from Francesca’s (old). I love putting together separates in a fun, colorful way. When the Keds arrived from Talbots, I thought they were even cuter in person than on-line, so I knew I wanted them to inspire the rest of my look.

I use this idea often because when I love an item, I want to feature it in a special way. Usually when I wear white pants, I wear nude or gold sandals so as to blend in with the pants and to extend my leg line. But, some rules are made to be broken.

These Keds were so summery, and playful, that I had to wear them in this jazzy way. So lovely readers, I think when looking through all your favorite retailers’ summer sale sites, consider buying one or two whimsical items, just for the joy of wearing something playful, or colorful, or both!

Happy Summer Shopping (mostly on-line)! How to Combine Sassy Summer Separates.
