Have you ever wanted to explore having a spring capsule wardrobe?
Do you wonder what is meant by a spring capsule wardrobe?
Black Jacquard Coat, Tote, White Jeans, Silver Loafers, Polka Dot Scarf
A capsule wardrobe is a minimalist wardrobe with a limited collection of versatile pieces. The items fit your lifestyle and body and transcend trendiness. The purpose of a capsule wardrobe is to make it easy to create different outfits. This allows you to shop less and more intentionally. By selecting fewer, better-quality items, you will practice sustainability and love the pieces you curate.
Starting a spring capsule wardrobe is a wonderful way to simplify your clothing choices and create a more intentional and versatile collection.
Like most of us, I have many black and white items in my closet.
Some basic items include my Talbots perfect white shirt, a black cotton cardigan, a black blazer, white sneakers, and black pumps.
As noted in my last post, “What to Wear on Easter? Dress or Pants?”, I recently purchased this terrific black and white jacquard Mac coat for Easter. I’m excited to show you several fun ways to incorporate this piece into my spring capsule wardrobe.
At first blush, the jacquard coat might seem too memorable of a piece to qualify for a spring capsule wardrobe.
But, with a capsule wardrobe, the best pieces are classic, time-tested styles and patterns. A jacquard pattern falls squarely in the category of a chic, timeless one.
Let’s take a look at a few outfits for my (mostly) black and white capsule wardrobe:
In this post...
Spring Capsule Wardrobe
Outfit #1: Black Jacquard Coat, Tote, White Jeans, Silver Loafers, Polka Dot Scarf

This first outfit combines multiple black and white pieces in a sharp look. I took a crisp white-edged black tee (nice longer-than-usual sleeves for those who are sensitive about their arms) and added white stovepipe jeans. The J Crew Factory jeans are stovepipe and very comfortable to wear all day as they have a bit of stretch.

I added silver loafers (similar, here in platinum) that have been remarkably versatile in my wardrobe. Lastly, I added the black jacquard coat, tote, and a polka dot scarf.

Check out the pretty inverted pleat in the back of the coat. I think it is flattering and gives extra armroom when driving.

It might seem like too much pattern, but that gets toned down by the solid tee and white jeans.

Outfit #2: White-Edged Black Tee, Wide-Leg Jeans, Scarf, Loafers

The second look involves a quick switch of pants and shoes. I popped on dark wash wide-leg jeans and cream Sam Edelman loafers. Again the tote works as would a solid black purse. I am wearing the same black tee with white edging as in the first look.
Here is a close-up of the Sam Edelman loafers (similar, here).
Outfit #3: Jacquard Coat, Tote, Black Pants, Green Bateau Neck Top, Pearls, Black Pumps

If all this black and white seems too much of a good thing, try this terrific green bateau neck tee under the black print coat. (The tee comes in several other colors.)
I changed out the shoes to black pumps and for pants, I wore these very affordable and comfy black knit drawstring full-leg pants. These pants are part of a 2 piece sweatsuit set! I loved the drape of the pants and the fabric is very luxurious! The price is such a terrific value! Of course, you could also wear black trousers like these.
I added a multi-stranded pearl necklace (only $26.50!) to add a bit more zhush to the look. I love the versatility of the tote.

Outfit #4: Black Blazer, Tote, Jacquard Knit Top, Jeans, Cream Loafers
Black Blazer, Tote, Jacquard Knit Top, Jeans, Cream Loafers
This look perfectly combines old and new black and white pieces to create another look.
I took a black blazer from my closet and added a jacquard knit top with a Johnny collar.

I loved the gold buttons on the top, so I added a gold watch and bangle. The tote coordinates with the top and the dark wash denim jeans tone down all the jacquard patterned pieces.
I completed the look with cream loafers. Sam Edelman makes moderately priced loafers in a wide array of patterns and colors. I find them very comfortable on my tender feet.

Love the concept of sustainability. I just found out that a good portion of donated clothes are just burned. How outrageous. I’m a fan of black and white and love the pop of green you added!
As always, you define classy, sassy style in the best way for women of a certain age! Love the crispness of the black and white- kudos once again! Also, check out the new bathing suit from Land’s End I just bought- think you’d love it. It’s the women’s slender suit pleated X-back in black and white!
