Cozy fall decor as seen on these great room shelves.

Cozy Fall Decor Ideas for a Warm & Inviting Home

Fall is here, and I am so excited to show you my cozy fall decor!

Fall is the perfect season to refresh your home decor because most of us begin to spend more time indoors. It’s the ideal time to light candles and make more delicious soups and meals…

It’s also time to pull out the thick throws for Netflix watching, and of course, pumpkins.

I have my seasonal decor in an unfinished section of my basement. I hang all my wreaths and garlands on masonry nails, usually by season or holidays. Every year, I change things up somewhat. I start with a few items and keep going as I feel inspired.

Most people don’t realize that fall decorations can easily stay up longer than Christmas decorations.

What, you ask?

It’s true!

Fall decorations can be put up as soon as Labor Day and can easily remain in place until Thanksgiving.

That’s almost three months.

Most people only put up Christmas decorations for one month or six weeks.

With that good news in mind, let me show you what I have put up this Fall!

I promise to show you easy, beautiful, and affordable ideas.

In this post...

Start with Warm Entryways

I love a wreath. Mine is a simple fall leaf wreath with all the usual suspects of red, orange, and brown leaves. Isn’t this pretty?

Next, I added a seasonal doormat for welcoming and cozy fall decor.

I always put out two big posts of mums. I usually get yellow ones, but this year, these orangey-bronze ones looked great.

And of course, there’s a perfect pumpkin.

Do you know how to keep the squirrels and chipmunks from eating your pumpkins? (And, no, the trick isn’t to use fake pumpkins!)

Watch this short video, and I will show you my perfect pumpkin trick!

Cozy Textures Inside

Here I swapped lightweight summer throws for chunky, cozy, heavier ones.

I added a pumpkin pillow and a orange one to my blue and white collection as a nod to fall.

I added cozy fall decor, wicker placemats, and mustard yellow napkins to my kitchen table. And I also put out a small arrangement of silk hydrangeas mixed with sunny yellow sunflowers.

Sitting at the table, you can see through my French door that my gorgeous flower boxes are all in bloom. Here’s a post on how I do my fall flower boxes.

For some years, I have decorated my mantel with colorful leaves and lights like this.

Autumn Colors in the Great Room (for More Cozy Fall Decor)

/ Blue and White Ginger Jar/ Fall Garland/

I recently changed out my great room to blue and white accent pieces. Collecting the pieces from Amazon, Homegoods, and various resale shops in my neighborhood has been such fun.

I love how clean and crisp everything looks.

But then, I added little bits and bobs of orange, red, and gold. Yep, I needed to see more of those cozy fall decor details.

Take a peek!

I think it looks so rich and classy. Do you think it’s too much?

/ Faux Pumpkins/

I even added a row of faux pumpkins along the mantel to break up all the dark wood. I smile every time I see them!

Dining Room Touches (of Cozy Fall Decor)

When I redid the great room, I decided the dining room also needed a blue and white redo.

/ Blue and White Rug (similar)/ Silk Hydrangeas/

I love the new, oh-so-soft blue and white rug and the blue and white fabric I used to reupholster the dining room chairs! The fabric is from Calico Corners, a chain of fabric stores.

Then, I started in on the china cabinet. This has never been a favorite piece of furniture for me. It and my dining room set originally belonged to my husband and his (now deceased) first wife, Nancy.

/ Blue and White Ginger Jars/ Small Raffia Pumpkins/ Fall Garlands/ Mini Pumpkins and Pinecones/ Silk Topiaries/ Waterford Biscuit Jar/ Waterford Bowl/ Crystal Bell/

I always thought it was too dark and formal, as I prefer French country style.

But now, I love how bright it looks!

I removed many old decor pieces and left just my crystal items behind.

I have a pair of Lalique swans, some Waterford bowls, a crystal bell, and a Waterford biscuit jar.

Then I added multiple blue and white ginger jars.

So, it was looking great…

And then, I started adding some fall accents.

I put a bunch of teeny pumpkins and pinecones in one of the crystal bowls.

I put a bunch of raffia pumpkins in bowls.

I added pieces of orange and wheat-colored branches here and there throughout.

Isn’t it so fun?

/ Silk Hydrangeas/

To complete the dining room, I added a basket of silk hydrangeas to the table and small garlands of orange and red berries around the candlesticks on a side table.

Powder Room Details (Cozy Fall Decor)

I have a darling curio cabinet in my powder room that I (of course) change out several times yearly.

/Mini Blue and White Ginger Jars in a Set of Four/ Ceramic Roosters (similar)/ Silk Ivy/

But recently I found this set of mini blue and white ginger jars. Aren’t they perfect?

/ Blue and White Ginger Jars/ Guest Towel Tray (similar)/ Blue and White Paper Guest Towels/ Blue Terrycloth Dish Towel/ Faux Bittersweet Berries/

And I popped a sprig of faux orange berries along the shelf with a tray of blue and white striped guest towels.

Another option would be fall-inspired fabric dish towels.

Kitchen Ideas (More Cozy Fall Decor Ideas!)

I love my kitchen all year round! I love to cook and entertain, so the island decor also gets some love throughout the year.

Right now, I have a silk arrangement that I bought many years ago. It has gorgeous orange poppies, yellow sunflowers, and bright blue delphiniums. There’s also a darling salt and pepper set with a little “mini” piece of ceramic candy corn. I have many minis that I change out with all the holidays.

The kitchen window ledge has a row of real mini pumpkins from the grocery store. I pop them on the table when we have a family dinner.

/Small Ceramic Rooster Pitcher ( similar)/

I have another small faux arrangement on the counter of hydrangeas and sunflowers.

/ Faux Arrangement (similar)/ Aura Frame/

A fun seasonal touch that my grandkids love is a candy jar that I change for all the holidays. Here it’s filled with candy corn.

Bedroom Thoughts (Cozy Fall Decor Details)

/Faux Pumpkin/

My son, daughter-in-law, and baby granddaughter arrived today from the East Coast for a week’s visit. I put fresh hydrangeas and a faux pumpkin in their bathroom, and a pumpkin pillow on their bed!
