A midi length is a skirt or dress that typically hits the mid-calf. It is no shorter than the knee and no longer than the ankle. The term “midi” comes from the word “middle” in that the hem is halfway down the leg near the middle of the calf.

What Shoes Should You Wear with a Midi Length Dress?

Midi length dresses look terrific with riding boots, booties, ballet flats, sneakers, pumps, and loafers.

I am on Team Midi! A midi-length dress is versatile and can be easily worn casually and dressily. I added this terrific black midi length dress to my fall capsule wardrobe because it is so classy and lends itself to many terrific looks!

And I was delighted when I received this Talbots midi-length dress in the mail the other day.

It has a very on-trend Johnny collar, a polo collar, or a neckline.

The fabric wears well with very minimal wrinkling.

And it can be styled in so many different ways! Let’s get to the outfits!

Outfit #1

Here is the first midi length outfit. I paired an olive utility jacket over the dress. I added leopard flats and a black pebble leather bag.

For early fall, pair this terrific black midi length dress with leopard flats, a gorgeous (and VERY reasonably priced) black pebbled leather bag, and an olive utility jacket as a perfect third piece.

Outfit #2

Here is the second midi length outfit. I paired a jean jacket over the dress. I added black riding boots and a black pebble leather bag with a classic black scarf that has a pearl design on it.

This look may be my favorite! I paired the Talbots’ black knit midi-length dress with gorgeous black leather riding boots and the same bag as the first outfit. Then, I layered on a very versatile jean jacket in a medium wash. The piece de resistance was the gorgeous black pearls and chain-patterned scarf.

Outfit #3

Here is the third midi length outfit. I paired a Glen plaid blazer over the dress. I added black riding boots and a black pebble leather bag with a gorgeous gold link necklace that has a central pearl.

Ooh la la! You need to check out this wonderful Glen plaid blazer from Amazon. Not only is it a great buy, but it is incredibly versatile. I layered it over the Johnny collar midi-length dress while wearing the riding boots from outfit #2. I continued with the black purse (which looks very similar to a gorgeous designer bag). I wore this beautiful gold link necklace with a central pearl for a necklace. These are all classic pieces you will want to wear for years.

Outfit #4

Here is the fourth midi length dress outfit. I paired a Glen plaid blazer over the dress. I added a leopard scarf, leopard flats and a brown cross-body bag.

This look is very on-trend, as I paired a leopard scarf with leopard flats while wearing the gorgeous blazer from Outfit #3. The brown cross-body has long been a favorite of mine. Mixing brown with black is an elevated combination that I love!

Outfit #5 (of the Midi Length Dresses)

Here is the fifth midi length dress outfit. I paired a black coatigan, silver loafers and a terrific and reasonably priced black bag.

Don’t you love this fifth look? The black knit dress is worn under the oh-so-terrific Coatigan (don’t miss the 30% off coupon!). This third piece is the perfect fall outer layer. It’s a blend of a long cardigan and a lighter-weight coat. I love it so much that I bought it in black and tan.

I bought it after I had purchased the (very) similar one from J-Crew. But the J-Crew one has some wool; this one does not, and I found the J-Crew one to be too itchy.

I wore silver loafers and a black and white polka dot scarf for some zhoosh. If you’re not a scarf wearer, tie it to the cute black bag.
