Wedding Tasting - Julie Marshall.jpg

My oldest son is getting married to his lovely fiancée this October.  My hubby and I were honored to be invited to the food and wine tasting this afternoon at The Ivy Room in Chicago at Twelve East Ohio.

The setting was beautiful as it is located in a building that dates back to 1890.  It was fully refurbished by the Lettuce Entertain You organization in 2015.  The enclosed courtyard has lush garden paths and the requisite ivy gracing the walls.

Can I just say the food was spectacular!  At my stage in life I’ve been to numerous weddings and the food is usually adequate at best.  Not this venue.  Everything we sampled was delicious.  We tried five appetizers and we were challenged to delete any of them.  My two favorites were a foraged mushroom tart with creme fraiche and chives as well as a crispy pear, Brie and roasted grape item.

For the entree the winner in my book was the most buttery tasting salmon with chanterelles served on a cauliflower risotto.  It was divine!   My husband loved the filet of beef, autumnal vegetable gratin served over a potato parsnip purée.

We sampled two desserts.  One was a milk chocolate pot au creme with toasted marshmallow and a graham cracker crumble.  It was rich but lightened by the whipped marshmallows and light crunch of the crumble.  The second dessert was a gorgeous pecan tart with maple gelato and praline brittle.  I felt these two choices ended in a tie.

The wines were all selected from Story Point vineyards.  The bride and groom decided on a delicious Chardonnay which had an apple based bouquet as well as a very tasty Pinot Noir.

For the tasting I wore a pin striped cream White House Black Market jacket (old) over a cream, grey and Ann Taylor black foulard tunic (old) with black silky cropped pants.  I wore black Stuart Weitzman block heeled sandals and a chunky pearl bracelet.

In summary this was this was a very happy day as my husband I are delighted at this upcoming union of two wonderful people.  It was such fun to get a sneak preview of what is sure to be a terrific day!
