Recently I met a friend for lunch at Avli, a Greek restaurant in Winnetka, Illinois (566 Chestnut Street). It’s actually in a collection of shops called The Laundry which is a fun arcade of gift shops, a children’s clothing store, two restaurants and more. It’s a cute stop on an even cuter street in downtown Winnetka which is about 15 miles north of downtown Chicago. Don’t miss the Book Stall (811 Elm Street) for a wonderful selection of books for all ages as well as The Classic Stitch (549 Chestnut Street) where you can find all kinds of great needlepoint canvases, supplies and ideas.

The food is delicious, very fresh and colorful. My friend and I each ordered the Greek salad with gyro meat and it definitely did not disappoint! I’m actually headed back there next week with another friend for supper! We also sampled the spanikopita and it was light and flaky, just the way I like it.

For the outing I wore a cute white outfit from Chico’s. The pants have served me well this summer and are the girlfriend cropped jean with darling white tassels at the cuff, while the top is a white tunic with white embroidery on the sleeves and front.

My purse was an oldie but goodie lime green bag with summer drinks pictured on the front. I added a silver open link necklace for a little dimension and the laser cut Stuart Weitzman block-heeled sandal mimicked the pattern to the embroidery. I didn’t think the shoe design was too much, but what do you think? Go check out Avli the next time you’re in Winnetka!
