Are you someone who dreads figuring out what to wear at this time of year? One day it’s hot and the next day you’re scrambling to find a cozy sweater. Late summer and early fall outfits are challenging at best!
This transitional season of summer into fall can be difficult for almost everyone!
Enter your favorite blogger (ah hem), which hopefully is me! I have you covered. In fact, I just wrote this post, Fall Wardrobe Essentials which shows you the exact items I purchased this year or last to make lots of late summer as well as early fall outfits. Take a peek at that article to see what items you might need. Check out that many of the items are on sale as noted in the post!
But, let’s get back to the story.
Most of us have “stuff” in our closets but we have no idea of how to put together cute late summer or early fall outfits…
I am on a mission.
I am going through my closet and coming up with TONS of cute looks for you!
My plan is to show you them as fast as I can try them all on, photograph them, and get them up on this blog site.
Yesterday was my first “try-on day”. I think the best pieces of clothing should follow the “rule of three”. That’s where every cute piece that I recommend should be easily configured into AT LEAST three different looks.
That way, you will get lots of use out of each piece and this will show you why a capsule wardrobe is such a great idea. Check out this post if you want to learn more about capsule wardrobes, How to Seamlessly Transition to Your Fall Capsule Wardrobe.
Let’s get to the looks. (Remember, you probably have some (or many) of these basic pieces in your closet already. You just need some inspiration on how to put them together in a fun way!)

In this post...
Outfit #1 (of the Late Summer Outfits and Early Fall Outfits)
| Tee | Pants | MaryJanes | Vest | Earrings | Watch | Bracelet |
Did you know leopard in ANYTHING is a big trend this fall 2024? I have always viewed leopard as a fun neutral and I especially wear it in the fall and winter months.
Here is a perfect look for a warm-to-hot autumn day. I paired a pair of tan drawstring linen pants with a v-neck leopard tee (a V-neck is very flattering to the over 50 year-old-neckline). I then added two more HUGE Fall 2024 trends: tan MaryJanes shoes and a black vest.
Vests are a flattering fashion item because they add a flattering “third piece” to an outfit. They also can stand alone as a top (instead of a tank).
I think you will see these three items (leopard items, MaryJanes, and vests EVERYWHERE this Fall!
Outfit #2 (of the Late Summer Outfits and Early Fall Outfits)
| Tee | Jeans | Sandals (similar) | Vest | Earrings | Watch | Bracelet | Purse |
In the second outfit, I continued with the vest and leopard tee, but this time, I switched out the tan linen pants for the cutest snap-front medium wash jeans (that are a TERRIFIC buy!). I finished the ensemble with a great black pebbled leather bag (better close-up photos in Outfits #5 and #6) as well as nude sandals with a block heel.
Outfit #3 (of the Late Summer Outfits and Early Fall Outfits)
| Tee | Pants | Sandals (similar) | Vest | Earrings | Watch | Bracelet |
This third look is a bit dressier in that I took black linen pants and sandals. I paired them with the same leopard tee and black vest. I added a gold watch, a gold bangle, and gold hoop earrings. I LOVE the look of gold jewelry with leopard as it looks so warm and rich.
Wearing the same color on the top and bottom is the perfect start to any classic look.
Outfit #4 (of the Late Summer Outfits and Early Fall Outfits)
| Cardigan | Tank | Jeans | Loafers | Choker(similar) | Earrings |
This look is so fun a playful! I love the white tank under the soft, flowy leopard cardigan. The cardigan has the perfect pockets and the snap-front jeans are remarkably comfy even though the rise is high (which I usually hate!). I added a brown leather choker with gold charms on it as well as cream loafers.
One of the fashion tricks in transitioning from summer to autumn, is to wear somewhat “heavier” shoes such as loafers, ballet flats, Mary Janes, or booties. Also, it’s best to wear darker floral prints and prints such as leopard as a nod to the changing seasons.
Outfit #5 (of the Late Summer Outfits and Early Fall Outfits)
| Cardigan | Tank | Pants | Sandals (similar) | Bag | Earrings | Watch | Bracelet | Necklace |
It’s always smart to go monochromatic for the first layer as it’s slimming as well as elongating. (In my next life, I want to be tall and Italian!).
Then, I added the leopard cardigan.
Here I paired a black tank with black cropped pants (great buy!). I added black sandals with tortoise-shell trim. My bag is a terrific value and is made from pebbled leather which is scratch-resistant. The gold hardware on the bag is very high-end in appearance.
I wore my diamond stud earrings, a gold watch, a gold bangle, and a pretty gold link necklace with a central pearl.
Outfit #6 (of the Late Summer Outfits and Early Fall Outfits)
| Cardigan | Tank | Jeans | Ballet Flats | Bag | Earrings | Watch | Bracelet | Necklace |
In this last late summer, early fall outfit, I paired the leopard cardigan with the same black tank as in Outfit #5. The other accessories are the same too. The differences are the cute medium-wash jeans and the black ballet flats. Don’t the black bag and ballet flats elevate the look to a classic “old money” outfit?
