When I saw this classic coat in the Talbots catalog, I knew I HAD to have it!
Hot pink or fuchsia is my FAVORITE color and it makes me feel so chic when I wear it.
For those pink lovers out there, I thought it would be neat to show you how I styled this classic coat four ways. When looking at the outfits, first think about what similar pieces you already own in your closet. Then, see if there’s a piece or two you could add from my links that would give you a whole new ensemble! Let’s check out my four looks:
In this post...
What is Meant by the Term “Classic Coat”?
A classic coat is a timeless piece of outerwear that never goes out of style. It is a versatile and elegant garment that can be worn for various occasions. According to Who What Wear, a classic coat is a sharply tailored coat with crisp lapels, heavy buttons, and structured shoulders. It is a style that excels with denim as well as trousers.
This beautiful classic coat from Talbots has excellent tailoring and is fully lined. It is made from a blend of wool, polyester, acrylic, and nylon. The fabric is slubby which is also very soft to the touch. There are faux horn buttons and welt front pockets
Outfit Number One: A Classic Coat With a Matching Sweater
The other day I was meeting my friend for a birthday tea at the Deer Path Inn in Lake Forest. I thought it would be pretty to wear this gorgeous fuchsia classic coat with a coordinating fuchsia sweater. Pro-tip: The sweater is made of very soft cashmere and has a v-neckline which is flattering for the middle-aged neck. I love the quality of Talbots’ cashmere as I have several different ones from previous seasons.
I paired the sweater with white dress pants from Chico’s. I think wearing winter white and fuchsia is a lovely alternative to red or black which are more traditional holiday colors. My shoes are nude D’orsay pumps. Pro-tip: Nude pumps serve to lengthen the leg line as they blend with the white pants. My bag is a terrific value and is a nude color as well. Lastly, I added a multi-stranded pearl necklace. It was from Talbots several years ago, but I found a similar one here for you.
Outfit Number Two: A Classic Coat With a Black Wrap Dress and Black Boots
I love this faux wrap dress by Norma Kamali! It is very comfortable and the neckline is not too deep or revealing. Under the gorgeous hot pink classic coat, I paired the dress with classic diamond stud earrings, a pearl necklace, and high black suede boots. My bag is black pebbled leather (similar, here). This look could take you to work, lunch, or out to dinner. It’s so simple and elegant. Pro-tip: Wearing the all-black dress, boots, and purse makes you look taller, thinner, and more elegant. It’s always a sharp go-to look.
Outfit Number Three: A Classic Coat With a Tweed Jacket, Striped Tee and Jeans
I LOVE this look! I love to mix dressy pieces (the classic coat and lady jacket) with striped tees, and jeans! It’s such a sexy, French look to my eye. Under the classic coat, I paired a blue tweed jacket (similar, here and here) with straight-leg jeans and a striped tee. My shoes are black suede booties and my bag is black pebbled leather (similar, here). I will wear this to another December lady’s luncheon this week and can’t wait to do so!
Outfit Number Four: A Classic Coat a Cashmere Scarf With a Black Turtleneck and Black Velvet Pants
As noted in outfit number two, wearing all black is such a sharp and classic look. Wearing these pieces under the classic coat is terrific because the fuchsia color makes such a strong statement and looks so pretty framing all of the black pieces in my “black column” of the turtleneck, the velvet pants, the booties, and the black bag. Pro-tip: I am 5’4″ and when I wear solid black from head to toe (or solid grey, white, blue, etc.), I always feel trimmer, taller, and more put together than if I wear different colored separates.)
Conclusion to A Classic Coat Styled Four Ways:
So a classic coat is a piece of clothing that will stand the test of time. It can easily be styled in many different ways. This beautiful classic coat can readily be styled for work, casual events, and fun luncheons with my friends. Truly, this is a great value and as of this posting, it’s 50% off! Isn’t it so cute?!!
I, too, love that color. Very dramatic and feminine. I agree with you about how all black outfits make me feel.
The Best feeling! I feel especially confident in an all-black column!
I’ll be on the prowl for a classic coat during January sales, thanks to you! It’s so easy (and wrong) to always just look ho-hum in parka and jeans.
