I was delighted to learn that every year on January 22, one of my favorite patterns is celebrated with a holiday!

Why am I so happy to learn this?

Because polka dots are such a happy pattern!

They always make me smile. It was a BLAST taking the time to look at some of my favorite websites and find a bunch of cute polka-dot items for you to check out at the end of this post.

Where Did the Term Polka Dot Come from?

Amazingly, it originated from the Czechoslovakian dance the polka as this article recounts. The print of multiple evenly spaced dots is much beloved and has been linked to Minnie Mouse as well as images of Marilyn Monroe, as well as Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. The polka dot pattern first became popular in 1926, when Norma Smallwood, Miss America at the time, wore a polka dot swimsuit.

Below is a collection of wonderful polka-dot items at lots of different price points. All the images are clickable. If you hover over any image and click, you will be taken to the appropriate site to learn more about it. Happy Polka Dot Week!

XO,

Dr. Julie
