How to Wear a Moto Jacket

I think a moto jacket is an essential fall wardrobe item and in this post, I will show you how to wear a moto jacket in four different ways.

A moto jacket is a common outerwear choice that was originally based on the first motorcycle jacket made by Irving Schott in 1928. It was designed initially for motorcyclists as protective clothing, before finding its way into the mainstream when James Dean wore one in the movie, “The Wild One”. He played a rebellious character and thus the jacket began to be associated as such with tough guys. Subsequently, the jacket entered the rock ‘n’ roll scene with various associations, including Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run album cover.

Nowadays the moto jacket can be dressed up or down and can be paired with feminine dresses, dressy slacks, or of course, jeans. The versatile moto jacket should become a staple in your closet. After reading this post, see if you agree with me.

How to wear a moto outfit (Outfit #1)

first photo of a black moto jacket worn over a long black and white striped sweater. my pants are black pointe leggings and I added black suede booties. For a dash of color, I wore a vintage teal blue with tiny black dots scarf around my neck.

In the first outfit (above), I wore a black vegan leather moto jacket over a white with black striped cotton and silk v-neck sweater. I added black pointe Lysse leggings and black suede Aquatalia booties. For color, I added a vintage teal with black dots scarf around my neck.

black moto jacket over a black silky tunic with black jeans. Accessories include: burgundy booties, a leopard tote, a jewel tone statement necklace, a tortoise shell earrings and bracelets.

How to wear a moto jacket (Outfit #2)

I paired the black Evereve moto jacket with a pair of black jeans that I rolled up a bit to show my burgundy suede booties in this fun fall look. Under the jacket, I wore a black v-neck Vince tunic as well as a rich jewel tone statement necklace from J Crew Factory. Style tip: I love mixing black with brown, especially in the fall. I think it looks more interesting than just wearing black. So I added tortoiseshell earrings, two tortoiseshell bangles, and a gold watch for added richness. Lastly, I wore a leopard tote to keep the black and brown motif going.

This look can take you to work, to lunch with your girlfriends, or out to dinner. I love the vibrance of the royal blue long-sleeve Talbots tee paired with an old equally rich-colored scarf. My pants were Lysse leggings with black suede Aqautalia booties and a reversible Nordstrom tote. Diamond stud earrings add a touch of sparkle.

this is the fourth look to show you how to style a moto jacket. I wore it with jeans, a white with black striped sweater and brown accented jewelry.

How to wear a moto jacket (Outfit #4)

In this fourth and final look, I show you how to style a moto jacket with a pair of jeans. These are boyfriend jeans that I cuffed a bit so as to show off my tan booties. I wore the white with a black striped sweater from the first outfit, but here I styled everything more casually. My tortoiseshell earrings are those from the second outfit, and my necklace is a brown leather choker (old) with lots of gold keys and charms on it.
