Fall is upon us so it’s time for some transitional outfits to take us into autumn. This outfit demonstrates a number of fall tips. First I wore a medium wash Kutfromthekloth jean jacket over a J Crew navy striped tee. Jean jackets are just the right weight; not too hot, and not too cold for this time of year. My olive Evereve pants are a dreamy blend of linen and cotton and are styled as a jogger. Very versatile as you’ll see over the next few weeks.

Fall Fashion Tips and Tricks

I think olive, brown, denim, oranges, are all great colors for fall clothing and accessories. They blend with what’s happening outside to all the trees and plants. My amber pendant is old and I love to wear either amber or tortoise shell at this time of year because it really warms up an outfit. My purse is a brown and white calf skin cross body bag but leopard would have worked just as well. Here’s a cute option.

This look (above) is a late summer one where I ‘m wearing a dark floral Loft tank over a Loft medium wash rolled denim short. I’m wearing a layered delicate Evereve necklace as well as last year’s madras Talbots espadrille sandals. I picked this outfit because I love florals all the time. But I think darker florals look especially cute in the fall when as in the next photo when I paired it with a dark jacket and jeans.

Isn’t this such a great look ? I have taken the previous dark floral tank and layered it under a black knit Evereve blazer. I’m wearing J Crew vintage light wash jeans with black suede block heeled Stuart Weitzman sandals. My black pebbled leather doctor’s bag is from Kate Spade and my turquoise beaded necklace is from Evereve. Don’t these two photos really point up how one floral tank can look so different simply by changing up how it’s treated?

Here’s an example of how by changing the color of my pants and shoes, the outfit looks more cool weather ready. I’m wearing a great Johnny Was black embroidered tunic that I belted with a brown skinny belt over a pair of AG skinny jeans. My shoes are Stuart Weitzman nude sandals with a kitten heel and my earrings are a very light weight silver mesh square (very similar ones here).

Then I changed into J Jill dark wash denim leggings and black Stuart Weitzman sandals. I removed the belt and kept the earrings. I also could have swapped out the sandals for black booties. Don’t you agree that that the darker jean definitely reads more fall than the white?

Here are those same green joggers but this time paired with a white crinkled cotton short-sleeved shirt from the Loft that I bought last week on clearance. The pants are from Evereve as I mentioned above and for a late summer look I accessorized with a fun artsy necklace that was gifted to me by my close friend Molly and a darling Talbots striped wristlet that has the exact same colors in the lettering as my necklace! Don’t you just love when that happens? I do! I think it’s so fun and inspired! This brings me to my next fashion tip: this is a great time of year to trot out your fun statement necklaces, bracelets, earrings and the like. Since the weather is cooler, it’s more enjoyable to wear these items now.

This look shows how well olive looks when paired with black and brown for this season. My top is a black mixed media tank from Ann Taylor. It comes in both black and white and is a great tank to purchase any time because the back is a knit while the front is a lined crepe-like fabric. Thus it looks nice on its own or under a jacket.

I like it here with a black flat leather Stuart Weitzman sandal and a terrific valued ($49!) reversible (brown to black) vegan leather Nordstrom’s tote. I love mixing brown and black in both winter and fall as it adds dimension to one’s wardrobe. My necklace is the same amber one from above and the brown feather earrings (similar, here) are from the airport kiosk in Phoenix, Arizona (who knew?)!

This look shows how much I LOVE to pair black with brown. This late summer look involves a black and brown (old) silk sarong that I wore over a black silky tank. I added a tortoise shell beaded choker, a tortoise shell Ann Taylor bangle (I love this bracelet set) and nude Stuart Weitzman sandals. My bag is an ancient straw one with rattan handles.

In this version, I switched to the Nordstrom reversible brown to black vegan tote, and added a black cashmere Lands End cashmere cardigan. A cashmere cardigan is a practical item item to add to your closet because it folds up well so that it can be stashed into your tote and it doesn’t wrinkle. I ALWAYS carry one when I fly as we all know how cold those flights can get…
