Are you a “dress person” on special occasions, or are you more of a “dressy top and pants” gal?
I usually wear a dress because I love the “one and doneness” of a dress.
And I feel so pretty in a dress.
Here’s a short video of my fun Mother’s Day look:
Recently, I attended a tea party at a lovely local restaurant, Willie’s Modern Fare in Rancho Mirage with a girlfriend, her husband, and their mom, Terry, who is 96!
It was such a delightful experience!
I wore a day dress that would be perfect for a Mother’s Day dress.

I’ve also curated a terrific collection of looks that include Mother’s Day dresses. Scroll to the end of the post for the looks. Talbots is currently having their Friends and Family Event where everything is on sale with an additional 30% off including markdowns!
Mother’s Day Dresses
Mother’s Day dresses are always a fun harbinger of the spring season of celebrations. Graduations, bridal and baby showers, and weddings are all coming up on the heels of Mother’s Day. While Easter can be unpredictable, especially in the Midwest, these other events usually involve warmer weather.
Florals are popular for many of these occasions, and the dresses can range from two-piece suits to mini, midi, or even maxi dresses. And for those of us who prefer pants, there is a wide selection of styles from slim, to straight, to wide legs. You should wear whatever makes you feel the most comfortable and attractive. I am delighted that so many choices exist currently.

Mother’s Day Dresses: My Outfit
| Dress | Hat | Sandals | Earrings | Watch | Bracelet | Purse |
My dress is a black and white poplin shirtdress with a self-tie from Talbots. It is a midi length and has a pretty split neck. The sleeves are three-quarters in length. I am 5’4″ and it hits below my knee. The dress is currently available in sizes 2-10, but at the bottom of this post, you will see several other beautiful alternatives. If you love my dress, it is on HUGE sale today! It is $62! Fabulous.
I wore nude suede block-heeled sandals to extend my leg line. Pro-tip: Nude or skin-colored sandals are a terrific value; they go with practically every outfit! For jewelry, I wore my Ebel stainless steel watch, “diamond” stud earrings, and a diamond bangle.
My hat is from Amazon! I think it’s perfect for the dress. It would be fun for a Kentucky Derby party or a polo match! Of course, you could easily omit the hat and still have a wonderful Mother’s Day look.
Lastly, in the video (above), I wore a wicker cross-body bag (similar, here) perfect for Spring!
Happy early Mother’s Day! If you need any gift ideas, look at the posts below. Please share this post with moms, grandmoms, or aunts who want some Mother’s Day outfit inspiration. The Talbots sale has some terrific buys!
