Are White Blazers In This Spring?
In this post, I will show you six fun, cute, and different ways to enjoy a white linen blazer. I am delighted to see that this white blazer has been released again this year at J Crew Factory, so this item is definitely “in” this Spring. When you finish this post, hopefully, you will see why I think this item is such a terrific wardrobe basic.
Last spring I saw this cute white linen blazer online and considered purchasing it. I was reluctant as I wasn’t sure that as a retired person, would I really wear it? I mostly go to casual or at most, dressy casual functions like lunches, date night, shopping, etc., so would I truly get much wear out of the item? Well, imagine my surprise, that it has turned out to be one of my FAVORITE pieces in my closet. White blazers are so versatile and are considered professional when styled with other workwear.
I believe white linen blazers can easily be worn for all of spring and summer. White wool blazers can be worn in the fall and winter. Readers have asked if they can wear a white blazer to a wedding. Yes, absolutely! Pro-tip: I think a sharp way to wear a white blazer to a wedding is to drape it over your shoulders so it looks less like workwear and more like dressier attire. I also think a white blazer would look crisp and appropriate for a work interview. Consider the third outfit in this post as a possible interview ensemble.
In this post, I will show you SIX different ways that I have already worn this great piece! ( I wonder if the reason I always shied away from a white blazer, was because I had worn a white lab coat during my entire career as a cosmetic dermatologist…?) Let’s get started:
White Blazer with Palazzo Pants

This year pretty much any kind of pants are “in”. Wide-leg pants are making a comeback in the fashion world, as are straight-leg jeans, and even stove pipe pants! I purchased several pairs of wide-leg or palazzo pants as I think they are so fashionable, yet comfy, especially on really hot days.
Here I am wearing the white jacket over a white tank and blue linen palazzo pants (or these). I wore this for a lunch meeting with my blog coder. It’s a crisp and professional look and could go to most workplaces. The linen pants are airy and cool in the heat.
My nude sandals (old, similar, here) and bag keep the focus more on my outfit. I wore a silver light-weight multi-stranded necklace (old, similar, here) and hammered silver heart earrings which were a gift from my sweet friend Molly. My bag is many years old, but here is a very cute similar one. Below each photo are links to the exact item or similar ones if mine were sold out. Click on any item to get details.
White Blazer with an Animal Print Tee

I love an animal print! This darling leopard print tee is so soft and inexpensive. It washes perfectly! I think the white blazer pairs nicely with the tee and white denim cropped slim jeans. White really makes the leopard print pop! My “diamond stud” earrings look classy with my straw bag and nude sandals (old, similar, here). Pro-tip: Nude sandals are a very frequent choice of mine as they extend my leg line. Great look for lunch with my girlfriends!
White Blazer with a Dress

This darling black dress is so easy to wear and is a great value! Pro-tip: I love draping the jacket over my shoulders for a different look. My nude doctor’s bag (similar, here) coordinates with my Stuart Weitzman sandals (old, similar, here). And this is a great dress for lunch, church, or memorial service. Black and white always work together!
White Blazer with a Casual Red Tee

This red print tee (old, similar here, and here) was from Loft last year and I love how soft their tees are! It’s a sweet flowered print and can work with jeans, shorts, and of course white pants. These are the same cropped pants as above (with the animal print tee). I LOVE the quality of merchandise from Talbots. I know some of my readers think that the looks at Talbots can be frumpy. But I disagree. It’s all about how you style the items (ahem, as noted in this post).
I added a red cross-body bag (old, similar, here) which is my absolute preference when I’m shopping as it allows me to keep track of my phone and credit cards while allowing me to carry shopping bags instead. My gold mesh watch coordinates with my gold bangle. Lastly, I’m wearing red Stuart Weitzman sandals (old, similar, here).
White Blazer with Shorts

Isn’t this a terrific look? I paired blue linen drawstring shorts (old, similar, here, here, or, here) with a cute white cotton short-sleeved shirt with the blazer for a sharp ensemble that would take you to lunch, work, or wherever fun outfits are worn! I added pearl stud earrings, nude shoes, and a straw bag (old, similar, here). Please note that in all my looks, I rolled the cuffs of my blazer. Before I was a blogger, I always had my blazers altered to my exact arm’s length. Pro-tip: But I really love how rolling up my sleeves elevates the look of this jacket.
White Blazer with a Graphic Tank

A graphic tee (old, similar, here, or here), especially one with the message “Positive Vibes Only” is definitely MY kind of look! Although I would typically wear this casual top just with denim shorts, I really like the vibe of wearing it here with my “white suit”. Pro-tip: I think it’s fun to mix the classic lines and fabric of the white linen blazer with the white denim jeans and the playful graphic tank. (Here’s another graphic tee look.) I added diamond pave hoop earrings (a gift from Mr. G.Q), to keep the classy look front and center.
What to Look for in a White Blazer?
I prefer that my blazers be lined as this helps them to lay smoothly and to wrinkle less. I like the vent on the back of the jacket to lay flat and as mentioned above, I think rolling the sleeves adds to the style. Talbots and J Crew both have terrific blazers that last for years. Their buttons are high quality and they always include extras on an inside seam (for when the cleaners accidentally melt one…). Lastly, I prefer simple classic lines as opposed to lots of trendy details. I want my blazer to function much like black ballet flats, pearl chokers, and basic black bags; they should appear timeless. That’s how you’ll get great value from the item.

A navy blazer is a terrific basic. I never thought of getting a white linen one until this year. Both are “essentials” for me going forward!
I bought those palazzo pants last year after you posted about them and I love them. Now I need to get the blazer. That is such a clean look.
Molly,
I am so glad that you bought the pants. You will really enjoy this blazer! It’s soooo versatile!

Update 2023: I bought the blazer as well as one of the cute Talbots dresses that you showed. Wore them both to my son’s medical school graduation and really looked fly -ha!!
Julie,
The evolution of your blog has been as classy as a white linen blaser.
Your style and content has the feel of a “personal trainer in your closet.”
In this latest offering, I looked for the literature, you know, the cute short story one might find in Vogue…kudos Dr J.
John,
That’s such a lovely comment! I so appreciate your impressions of my work!

I absolutely love the first look. Easy to put together and I just bought my first pair of palazzo pants to wear in the Charleston heat. And the look of rolled up cuffs is a step up. Nicely done, Dr. Julie.
Thanks Miss Joanie! Let me know if it becomes a favorite look for you!
All great looks! Love these!
Thanks Col!
