As I mentioned earlier in the week, I love an opportunity to dress up for a holiday. The Fourth of July merits any fun combination of red white and blue outfits as does just about any day all summer long. I rounded up a few options that might appeal to this year’s festivities. Just look through your closet and see if you don’t have something similar. These outfits work for Memorial Day, July Fourth, or Labor Day.
Red white and blue outfits
Above is a cute outfit consisting of this year’s Banana Republic Supima cotton V-neck tee worn with (this season’s) Loft navy polka dot 100% cotton mid-rise shorts. I like this tee because the sleeves are trim and the neckline isn’t too low.
The shorts are 4 inches in length, which is usually too short for me, but looked good on. I added a red cotton bandana from the Dollar Store (!) for my neck and white leather Keds sneakers for my casual shoes. I love the crispness of a white tee and you could easily pair it with denim shorts or a skirt for a similar vibe.
This top looks like fireworks to me. It’s red, white and blue and it’s by Alison Joy (old, from Evereve). I wear it with this silver multi-stranded necklace as well as coordinating bracelets. If I were cool I would add a dark wash jean jacket. The pants are “the legging ankle super skinny ankle jean by AG”. I wear these jeans A LOT and they have worn like iron. They’re pricy, but on a cost per wear basis, they are a real value. Also they’re intermittently on sale at Nordstrom’s and Bloomies. Lastly, my bucket bag is from this season and was purchased at J. McLaughlin.
This is me this year on Memorial Day. I wore an old and very soft Gap blue and white striped cotton shirt out over a pair of old Christopher Blue white ankle jeans. For a red accent, I wore a light-weight red print cotton neck kerchief from Madewell. (Madewell frequently has a small, but noteworthy collection of small scarves.) I wear them on my neck, or in a blazer pocket (as a pocket square), or even tied on my purse, especially when it’s too hot to have on my person! For shoes, I wore a pair of nude flat sandals which always work with white pants, shorts, or skirts.
This is from last summer and is a great pair of white tasseled jeans by Chico, worn with a navy and red polka dot cotton Talbots blouse. Again the nude sandals and simple pearl drop earrings.
I’m on my deck doing my daily chore of watering my flower boxes. I must remember tomorrow to show you this year’s blooms!
So that about does it. These are four different patriotic looks for a casual holiday event. For fun, let me know which of these red white and blue outfits you think is the cutest below in the comment section. Most readers find it easier to comment as a “guest”. It’s really helpful to hear from all of you.
Thanks so much!

PS I have to go finish up my Fourth of July Grandbaby treats right now. Stay tuned to see it on tomorrow’s blog (or tonight’s if it’s done in time!)
PPS Here’s a post on red, white and blue home decorations you might enjoy!
My favorite is the first, probably because I’ve gone crazy for polka dots this year. I found 2 great polka dot bathing suits from Boden this summer. All the looks are great though Julie!
Col,
I’m so glad you love the polka dots! Me too!!! Always seem so cheerful! I love the Boden stuff!
Happy Fourth! Your recent painting of crashing waves was gorgeous!
