Red, white and blue outfits
As we all know, every summer there are three fun holidays that are all considered patriotic. There’s Memorial Day at the end of May, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day, at the beginning of September. All involve some degree of American flags and the colors red, white and blue. I think it’s fun to come up with different takes on that theme and in this post, I will show you four different red, white and blue looks to take you to any barbecue or family party.
In this first look I paired a bright red linen shirt from J. Jill with navy polka dot cotton shorts from the Loft. I think Loft carries great shorts as they wash well and keep their crease easily. I tied the shirt at my waist for a fun vibe but you could also tuck in the front of the shirt for a slightly different look. Rolling the sleeves a bit adds to the shirt’s style. I wore flat, nude Stuart Weitzman sandals because doing so lengthens my leg line.
For jewelry, I wore “diamond” studs from Kohl’s, a pearl bracelet from Ann Taylor, and my trusty stainless watch from Ebel (thanks Mr. G.Q.!). My bucket bag is so summery with the straw body and rattan handles. It’s from J. McLaughlin and is very sturdy. I love to wear high/low fashion where I combine inexpensive or on sale items with more expensive pieces as I really think it’s about “the look” more than spending a lot on every item.
I love this outfit! Here I paired a navy Cabi tee with a pair of white fringed cropped pants from Chico’s. To complete the look, I added a red, white, and blue ruana that I picked up at the local garden store! Here are some very similar ones. Ruanas and kimonos are very playful, breezy items to add to your wardrobe. They pack like a dream and are useful as a scarf, or shawl (think too much air conditioning), or even as a bathing suit coverup. My favorite ones are colorful and I think they’re best paired with solid colored items as in this ensemble. Again, note I’m wearing nude sandals, this time from J. Jill. I love how nude sandals work so well with any white pants.
Outfit Number Three: A blue denim dress and a red and white striped tee shirt
In this third look, I paired a Ralph Lauren shift style blue jean dress from Macy’s with a red and white striped cotton tee shirt from Talbots. I rolled the sleeves a bit to showcase my gold mesh wash from Macy’s and my gold bangle from Talbots (thank you, Linda!). My bucket bag is the same one as in the first outfit. Since that is from last year, here is another similar one. Here I wore pearl stud earrings and yet another pair of nude Stuart Weitzman kitten heeled nude sandals. I prefer a little heel to flats when I wear a dress as I think it’s more flattering to my legs.
Outfit Number Four: A pretty blue sundress with a red choker
This last look is a cool look for a hot day. This blue sundress is from Target. I liked it so much, I bought it in a pink print too (stay tuned for a future post). I paired it with silver wedge sandals. I left this pair at my California winter home, so I can’t tell you the brand. To continue the silver theme, I paired an old straw tote (similar one, here) that has silver threads running through it, and my stainless steel Ebel watch. My earring are simple pearl studs and my red beaded choker added a little bit of red to my look.
Conclusion
I so enjoy figuring out what to wear to any event. It’s really fun for me! I want it to be fun for you as well. Hopefully, these outfits will inspire you to enjoy the summer holidays too.
