When I think of summer I think of red, white, and blue in my home. Summer unofficially starts on Memorial Day and ends with Labor Day with the Fourth of July sandwiched in between. So I usually trot out these patriotic colors early in the summer and keep them in place until Labor Day.
Starting with my front door I put up a red geranium wreath from Amazon. I have pots of geraniums and ivy on either side of my front walk and on the actual holidays I pop in small flags (Amazon). As we enter my front hallway I have a flag pillow from Homegoods. In another corner I found this handsome needlepoint pillow that I think is sharp, (here is a similar one,).
In the great room I have three attractive wavy flag pillows that I found this season at Pier One. I like how this pillow is bold enough to stand alone on my love seat but also looks great flanked by two tan (Homegoods) pillows on my couch.
Each season I change out my decorations on my ottoman. I start with a large rectangular flat basket (Pottery Barn), to which I added a long garland of ivy (Homegoods). Then I placed a large red book on one side of the basket which I topped with two hurricanes and cream unscented candles (Crate and Barrel). Lastly on the other half of the basket I placed two silk red geraniums (Michaels). On the side table I arranged three smaller silk geraniums in an old milk bottle crate (Homegoods).
On the floor behind my sofa, but facing the adjacent kitchen I put a rustic red, white and blue box on top of some very old Hartman luggage! Here is a similar Kleenex box cover that would be cute on a counter or in the powder room.
In my powder room I put out a darling ticking striped hand towel (Crate and Barrel) (another cute option are these towels)as well as vintage flag paper towels in a tray. Again on the actual holidays I pop out my Uncle Sam nutcracker.
On my kitchen window sill I have a little rooster vase. Usually it’s empty but come one of these holidays he might be sporting a red flower from my garden. And speaking of gardens, on my deck again on the holidays I trot out pinwheels (Amazon) especially if it’s windy and the grandkids are coming over to play. Lastly on my back door (which most everyone uses)I have a great wreath made from cotton bolls from Cracker Barrel! Who knew?
As I said in the About Me section of my blog I am that crazy person who LOVES decorating for any reason, holiday or season! Go red, white and blue!
