Hello lovely readers!! Have you missed me as much as I missed you? I have a fun casual outfit for a 50-year-old woman to share with you today. Before we get into that, here’s what’s been going on in Dr. Julie’s Very Fun and Full Life: I packed up my stuff which as some of you know from last year is an ENTIRE SUV full of clothes, accessories, blog stuff, recipe files and even some dermatology continuing medical education folders and had all of it shipped back from very HOT (115 degrees!) and sunny La Quinta, California to much cooler (thankfully) Northfield, Illinois.
While awaiting the shipment, I took down and packed away all of my Christmas (!) decorations. I had planned on doing that in February, when my newest grandson, Connor was hatched. But Covid-19 had other ideas… I finally got to hold Mr. Connor yesterday!!! Then I put up the summer decorations and made numerous treks to the various garden centers to do my gardens, flower boxes, screened-in porch, and front flower pots!
Once the car arrived, I tackled that. I’ve hung all the summer clothes, come up with multiple new combinations of old items, and purchased two new tie racks on which I plan to organize more necklaces. Now my youngest son is coming home (from New York) for his first trip here since December so I’m getting the house ready for him. He’s bringing home his new (to us) girlfriend Rachel, so Mr. G.Q. and I are very excited about that meeting. Well, that about brings you up to date. Remember this blog is all about my fun and full life. Yikes! It sure has been busy!
A Fun Casual Outfit for a 50-Year-Old Woman
Just for fun, I thought I would show you an outfit I wore with my girlfriend, Linda from before I left California. We had optimistically set out to see if any of the shops were open on El Paseo Drive which is the chi chi street in Palm Desert. Unfortunately, we were out of luck as the “Closed for Covid-19” signs were everywhere!
But that didn’t stop us from looking cute. Here I am in a heather grey sleeveless tank dress from last year at Uniqlo. I layered a white (this season) J. Jill linen long cardigan over the dress and tied a white floral print large square scarf in a simple knot.
For accessories, I wore Stuart Weitzman nude suede block-heeled sandals (old), a chunky pearl bracelet (old from Ann Taylor), and small drop pearl earrings (old).
My straw hat is from this spring at J.Jill. I love it because it is made of a neat, packable soft straw-like fabric and it has a contrasting cream band woven into the crown. My purse is sooo cute. It’s from J. McLaughlin (this season) and I think it’s so timeless. I tell Mr. G.Q. that it’s my “Jackie O” bag. I love how the darker leather trim coordinates with the darker stripe on the hat and I think the rattan handles are so interesting from a textural point of view.
When I was putting this casual outfit for a 50-year-old woman together, I didn’t think the heather grey would work with the hat and purse. But once I laid it all out on the bed, I thought the outfit was a “go”. Was I right? Let me know in the comments section below. I know many of you have said that you think that section is cumbersome to use. Just click on the “comment as a guest” and I think you’ll find it easier. I would love to hear your thoughts.
I’m glad to be squared away back in Chicago. Stay tuned for stories from this Midwestern front. Happy Wednesday!!!!
Cute!
