Did you know that of all the jean types (and there are a bunch!), did you know that bootcut jeans for women are considered the most universally flattering?

Today, I will show you how I recently styled my favorite bootcut jeans and why I like this cut so much. I will show you how I layered several pieces from my closet to create a chic yet comfy wintery bootcut jeans outfit that I hope you will love and inspire you to try this trend.

What Do Bootcut Jeans Look Like?

Bootcut jeans are slim-fitting jeans that lightly flare out from the knee, just enough to fit a boot. Hence, the name!

Why are Bootcut Jeans for Women a Good Choice?

Bootcut jeans for women are so flattering for many types of body shapes. They have a wider leg opening than skinny jeans which makes them more flattering on most figures. The shape of bootcut jeans flatters women with bigger legs and those with larger feet. The gentle flare of the hem of bootcut jeans helps to balance the hips of someone who is more curvy. Thus, pear-shaped women love the fact that this style balances their lower body volume and more slender figures like the way these jeans add a bit of curve to their overall shape.

The wider leg opening in the thigh helps to smooth out the appearance of the legs and hides any lumps or bumps that might show with tighter, skinny jeans. They are so comfortable because they are not as tight or constricting as skinny jeans. Because they are so comfortable, they are a perfect style for long days of travel.

In this bootcut jeans outfit, I paired my newest favorite long cardigan with my favorite dark wash bootcut jeans. I added tan suede booties which coordinate with the tan cardigan. Under the terrific cardigan, I wore a classic blue striped cotton shirt (similar, here).

This cardigan is so great for several reasons. First of all, it comes in 19 different colors. The quality of the knit is very high-end in its appearance. The fabric is free of wool which is so terrific for my itchy skin. (I can only tolerate soft cashmere for wool.) This cardigan has such a pretty profile. The lapels lie gently folded back and there are no buttons to deal with due to its streamlined look.

Many cardigans overwhelm my 5’4″ frame. This one is very proportionate and in fact, looks very similar to the J Crew Juliette collarless sweater-blazer. But, there is 30% Merino wool in the J Crew item. In addition, the price of the Amazon piece is terrific (here is the Amazon one)!

Then to elevate and complete the classic bootcut outfit, I accessorized with my favorite brown Patricia Nash crossbody bag, a navy floral scarf (similar, here), as well as my trusty diamond stud earrings.

I love the braided trim on this bag as well as the wristlet option and the sturdy clasp.

Are you someone who wonders how to wear a scarf? Do you think they look cute on others but have no clue how to wear them? I believe scarves are such a fabulous accessory because they add a bit of zhuzh. I just tied this scarf in a simple knot. The pop of color helps to pull together the different colors in the outfit and make it all seem so cohesive and chic.

So often women don’t accessorize. I think wearing classic earrings on repeat as I tend to do, makes for a classic style and is easy to remember to pop on before heading out the door.

I like wearing a crossbody bag when I have on layers as it helps to keep all the pieces lined up in their appropriate places. Plus, I find a crossbody bag so easy to wear when traveling or shopping as it keeps my purse securely on my body while allowing hands-free shopping.

What Kind of Shoes to Wear with Bootcut Jeans

/Bootcut Jeans/Cardigan/Shirt/Earrings/Purse/Scarf/Booties/

Many women wonder what kind of shoes they should wear with bootcut jeans. Even though the name is “bootcut jeans”, many styles of shoes and boots work well with this kind of pants. The key to figuring out the shoe to wear is to coordinate the length of the jeans with the height of the shoes/boots.

I love the look of my suede booties (here, or here), but it would also work to wear a flatter shoe, a strappy sandal, or even a platform sneaker. The best tip is to wear shoes that allow the bootcut jeans to be at least one inch above the ground. This keeps the profile of the jeans looking classy, not sloppy.

Some of My Favorite Bootcut Jeans for You to Consider:

The jeans I am wearing are the bootcut Barbara jeans by NYJD. I am wearing a size 6 and they fit like a dream. The mid-rise (10-inch front rise) is comfortable on my short-waisted frame and I like that the wash doesn’t have any distressing or tears which makes them perfect for business casual looks. These jeans have a fair amount of stretch so they are comfy all day sitting at my desk.

I have also listed several other brands of bootcut jeans in the Shop the Post below that I like as well. Click on any of the photos to go to the site to see the item details.

Tips to Find the Best Jeans for YOUR Body:

As with all jeans, it takes a bit of patience to find ones that fit you comfortably. When you buy them, try them on and take a few minutes to sit, crouch, and bend over to see if the jeans feel perfect. Bring along a discerning friend for her opinion. Take your time. Buy the jeans so they perfectly fit your biggest body part. Don’t pay attention to the size label.

Once you’ve comfortably fit that area, don’t be disappointed if you’ll now need to alter the other areas to get the perfect fit. Remember, women’s sizes are made up by the manufacturers and have little to do with how most women are built. Spending the money to tailor your clothes so they fit YOU perfectly is the way to have a wardrobe filled with clothes you LOVE and that look GREAT on you.
