Are Black Blazers Still In Style?
A black blazer is a basic wardrobe item. It is a classic item and is definitely in style. I think a black blazer is as basic of an item for the classically styled wardrobe as a white cotton shirt, black pants, a black turtleneck, and blue jeans. You are ALWAYS safe and stylish in wearing a black blazer.
It is a classic staple that can be worn year-round with lots of variations. This particular blazer (similar, here, here) is such a great chic piece that I had to do a whole blog post on it.
Why is it so terrific?
There are several reasons. The blazer contains a bit of stretch which makes it very comfortable to wear even when traveling or when working at your desk.
In addition, this jacket has the added feature of a detachable gray hoodie insert. It’s a genius addition to a great wardrobe item. You actually button in the hoodie along the collar and zip in the sides.
This allows the look of a hoodie, without the bulk of an actual whole sweater.
Plus, it greatly increases the versatility of the blazer by adding a casual tone to the looks when the insert is employed.
What Color Top to Wear With a Black Blazer to Create a Black Blazer Outfit?
In my opinion, think of a black blazer as the blue jeans of the blazers. It can go with ANY color top, just like jeans. In this post, I paired it with two leopard tops, white henleys, a black cami, and a black and white striped tee. So, let your imagination run wild and wear the black blazer with confidence!
Can You Still Wear Skinny Jeans?
This is a very popular question in the world of fashion. The short answer is, “Yes, if skinny jeans feel good on you, you can definitely wear them!” In fact, when I was looking up the links for all the items in this post, I typed in “skinny jeans” on the Nordstrom site. No less than 94 choices popped up yesterday. Pro-Tip: I believe that we should wear the jeans that make us feel the most confident and comfortable. That could be wide-legged crops, ankle jeans, skinny jeans, or even trouser jeans. You.get.to.pick!
First Black Blazer Outfit (How to Wear a Black Blazer With Jeans)
In the above black blazer outfit, I am wearing a black blazer with an Amazon leopard sweater and dark-wash skinny jeans. When wearing a women’s blazer with jeans, a neat juxtaposition of casual with dressy occurs. I added pearls and nude D’orsay pumps (old, similar, here), and silver hoops, all of which add a classic bent to the look. This would be a great lunch with friends outfit or a look for going out to dinner. I have a black clutch (old, similar, here).
Second Black Blazer Outfit (How to Wear a Black Blazer Casually)
In this second look, above, I added the hoodie insert and went with a more casual vibe, by adding a white henley tee, black crossbody bag, black Vuori joggers, and sneakers. Style tip: to elevate this casual outfit, even more, I rolled the sleeves and wore a leather maple leaf pin as I was on a fall trip to NYC.
Here I am on the Brooklyn Bridge. I changed into gray Asics sneakers as we walked 17,000 steps that day! Style tip: when running around town, I prefer to use a crossbody purse.
Third Black Blazer Outfit (How to Wear a Black Blazer with Jeans for a Second Time)
Here I have a fun date night look, below. I paired the blazer with skinny jeans and the same nude pumps (similar, here) as the previous look, but I swapped out the white tee with a pretty Evereve black camisole, silver pave hoop earrings, and a black pebbled leather clutch bag (similar, here) that has a neat tortoiseshell clasp.
Fourth Black Blazer Outfit (a Second Way to Wear a Black Blazer Casually)
This is a cute casual pairing of the jacket, with the hoodie, a black and white striped snap tee (similar, here), and very comfy and flattering tobacco brown slim-cut pants from Talbots. I wore my new charcoal sneakers by Taos and capped off my look with a small Madewell brown with a black polka dot neck kerchief (similar, here). Isn’t it interesting to pair the black, brown, and charcoal colors all in one outfit? I love the combination!
Fifth Black Blazer Outfit
Here I am above, at the Plaza Hotel in NYC, with my son’s sweet fiancee, Rachel. We had a lovely tea. Here you see me in the same brown pants as in the fourth outfit, but this time I paired it with a leopard blouse, a leopard belt, and black suede Blondo booties. I added an amber beaded choker and pearl stud earrings. (Doesn’t Rachel look darling in her pink and black boucle jacket, over a black top and pants? I especially love her pink suede pumps!)
Sixth Black Blazer Outfit (a Third Way to Wear a Black Blazer Casually)
Here I am on my way home from NYC at LaGuardia Airport! I added back the gray hoodie insert to the blazer and popped on a white henley, black joggers, and gray sneakers. To tie everything together, I added a black and gray leopard long tissue paper-thin, cashmere scarf (similar, here, and, here). When I fly, I need to have a cashmere scarf or sweater, because I get so cold!
Style tip: one way to stretch pieces especially when on a trip, is to come up with very different looks with some of the staple pieces. Also, to justify a purchase, it’s beneficial to try and come up with three distinct ways to style the item before you shop and actually purchase it. Ask a stylish friend for suggestions or even your favorite (ahem) blogger. Seriously, people DM me all the time with fashion questions. I love to answer them.
