Have you been wondering if a Tumi backpack is worth the cost? In this post, I will give you my honest Tumi backpack review after taking it on the last six flights.
I travel quite a bit and have been eyeing the Tumi backpack for some time. My sister-in-law and my newest daughter-in-law loved theirs so I was excited to head to the Tumi store for a possible test drive.
Here is a video of my Tumi backpack review:

My Tumi Backpack Review: Why I love it!
This is a Tumi backpack review of the Celina backpack, a best seller in Tumi’s Voyageur line. It is made of stain-resistant black nylon and is very lightweight.
Here’s what I know: I loved how sleek and classic it looked. There were several different colors as well as two options on the hardware. I selected the most popular color black and the gunmetal hardware. It also comes with gold hardware. If you like the color grey or pale blue version of this Celina backpack, they are all on sale now.
I’m delighted with this backpack. Its proportions fit a lot but aren’t so massive that it’s too heavy or too big for me to comfortably carry. It definitely meets every airline’s personal item requirements that I’ve checked. It fits under every airplane seat I’ve tried. I put it under my seat and can easily access all the compartments while it’s on the floor in front of me.

I liked the smooth nylon fabric and the backpack had so many compartments. I also like that the inside color is grey. This makes it easier to find items. The storage and organization are fantastic. All pockets and zippers are well constructed. The trolley sleeve really helps when breezing through the airport if you want to get the weight off your back!
The very back skinny, large pocket has my laptop and iPad Pro.

Tumi Backpack Review: Features and Where I Put What!
Here are some of my favorite features of the backpack’s exterior:
- Double-zip entry to the main compartment. I love a double zipper as it allows access from either side which helps find a lost item.
- Zip entry to padded laptop compartment (fits up to a 15” PC or 16” MacBook screen). My laptop, mouse, mouse pad, and cord easily fit in this laptop compartment.
- Leather top handle. This helps hang in the restroom or hotel room.
- Front U-zip pocket. Here’s where I put my snacks like a Larabar or nuts. I also add my sunglasses, hand cream, and lipstick case.
- 2 front zip pockets. I usually put a book and my travel charger case in the most forward pocket.
- Front zip entry to the main compartment. In the center pocket, I put this cashmere wrap (currently on sale!) and this cashmere hoodie (also on sale!) for cold air cabin temperatures! And, this is where I store my crossbody bag when boarding so the airport staff doesn’t yell at me for having too many carry-ons!
- Side zip pocket. The front zip pocket is the perfect size for my passport. No more panic-inducing rummaging around when at TSA!
- Side double-zip water-resistant water bottle pocket. The double zipper allows me to secure a water bottle so it doesn’t topple over. Here’s my water bottle.
- Padded adjustable backpack straps with D-ring & loop compatible with select TUMI+ accessories. Some reviews say the straps are too long. I am 5’4″ and think the straps are “just right”.
- Quick-access phone pocket. This is where I store my phone for easy access.
- Monogrammable detachable leather charm. This is free and I got mine at the Tumi store. They made it there in five minutes!
- Trolley strap. This allows me to easily slide the backpack over the handle of my suitcase. This is such a terrific feature! As for the backpack’s interior, here are a few more neat features:
- Zip pocket
- TUMI Tracer®. This is an exclusive and complimentary program that helps reunite TUMI customers with their lost or stolen items.
- 2 media pockets. These are perfect for iPads.
- Leather card pocket. This is where I put my business cards.
- Loops compatible with select TUMI+ accessories.
- D-ring compatible with select TUMI+ accessories.
- Open pocket.
- Leather pen loop. This is where I store a pen as well as a notepad.
- Key leash. Again, this is very helpful to clip on your car or home keys.

This backpack looks smaller than the one I carry so might be just right as I’m getting older (not to say weaker, but I am aging)! Thanks for the in depth review.
Joanie, I love my Tumi!
