I don’t know about you, but when I think of fall I think of plaid blazer outfits!
Fall just reminds me of plaid flannel shirts, plaid placemats, and plaid scarves.
Maybe it’s because I can’t wear plaid in California when I get there in January as it gets too warm. (sigh!)
So since Labor Day just rolled by, I am ready to show you THE CUTEST PLAID JACKET that you really SHOULD consider for your fall wardrobe.
Pro-tip: I am ALL ABOUT SHOPPING YOUR CLOSET before shopping for new stuff. Take a look at these posts for closet-organizing tips (here, here, here, and here!).
AND ONCE YOU’VE done that, take a look at these VERY CUTE BLAZERS (here, and here) and read how to style a blazer for fall in five ways!!! And that doesn’t include cooler weather looks using various sweaters… So, stay tuned for those as the weather permits.
In this post...
Why this blazer for your blazer outfits?

| Blazer | Tank | Necklace | Pants | Pumps|
I love a blazer in the fall and winter. In the early fall, I love the look, but don’t want to be too hot! Enter these two blazers,(here, and here) both VERY similar to the one in the photos which is sold out! These two are darling, light-weight plaid or houdstooth blazers. I love them both! They are both very packable and will be easy to layer under a trench or coat.
Let’s get to how to style a blazer for fall!
How to Wear a Blazer with All Black Underneath:

| Blazer | Tank | Necklace | Pants | Pumps|
This is probably the easiest outfit to put together with items you already have in your closet. Just take a black lightweight sweater or in my case, or a raw-edged tank and pair it with black pants. I am wearing these terrific pointe knit pants by J Jill, but truly, any cute well-fitting pants will do. This look is so easy to wear and black is universally flattering as it’s so slimming. If you’re traveling, it’s great for hiding soil. This is called “column dressing” where you wear the same color on top as well as on the bottom and it really makes everyone look taller and more slender (win, win!).

| Blazer | Tank | Necklace | Pants | Pumps|
I think the blazer,(here, and here) with this outfit, looks great open or buttoned. I added a colorful necklace (don’t miss the 10% off coupon!) that I found online and it has many of the pretty colors of the jacket including green, amber, brown, and gold. And it was such a buy! It even had coordinating earrings!
Pro-tip: As we age, our necks become wrinkled. This is a sore spot for most women that I think can be remedied with pretty necklaces that draw attention there instead of the wrinkles. Pro-tip: Another great trick is to wear a v-neck as it tends to elongate the neck and draw attention to the neckline rather than the neck!
The V-neck top I am wearing is a raw edged cami. I love the softness of the neckline. My shoes are black D’orsay pumps which are VERY comfortable and sexy!
How to Wear a Blazer with Jeans for Your Blazer Outfits:

| Blazer | Tank | Jeans | Booties | Necklace |
I think wearing a blazer (here, and here) with jeans is SUCH A CLASSIC autumnal look! I
It just screams, “FALL” to me!
I love the layering of a third piece.
I love the plaid of these jackets (here, and here) because they goes with so many colors and items.

| Blazer | Tank | Jeans | Booties | Necklace |
This latest fashion blazer (here, and here), with the menswear details looks cool paired with jeans. It can go with any kind of wash, but in this post, I will show it with distressed vintage jeans as well as my favorite dark-wash denim.
In this second of five blazer outfits, I paired the women’s plaid jacket, (here, and here) with the great valued same raw-edged tank from above, vintage jeans, and an amber-beaded choker. I love amber in the fall as it’s so classy and warm in tone (and another great buy!). I added nude booties and a sharp brown tote. Most of us have a favorite pair of jeans and tee in our closet (if not, check out my links), and just adding the blazer will make this a very on-trend outfit.
How to Wear Dark Florals with This Plaid Jacket:

| Blazer | Floral top | Jeans | Booties |
Pro-tip: The trick is to use the same colors in the floral top as in the jacket, (here, and here). That way, it all works together. See if you agree.

| Blazer | Floral top | Jeans | Booties |
In this third of five blazer outfits, at how to wear a women’s blazer,(here, and here) , I paired a cute dark floral or print top with the plaid jacket,(here, and here) and dark wash jeans. I LOVE the interest this brings to the top and to the blazer(here, and here),. And when it’s still warm, you can remove the jacket and still have on a really cute look.
I added the same nude booties in the second look. They are a terrific neutral for your fall and winter outfits.
How to Wear this Plaid Jacket with a Button-Down Shirt:

| Blazer | Shirt | Pants | Pumps | Necklace | Clutch | Watch | Bracelet |
Isn’t this fourth of five blazer outfits so cute?
I love the blue cotton shirt and mine actually has little doggies on it. I couldn’t. Seriously, you can pull this ensemble with any light blue shirt.
There’s something about this look that looks a bit more business-like than I usually do (as a retired dermatologist). And I like it! I think it would go to most work environments as I paired black pants from the first outfit, with the necklace from the second outfit. I added a black pebbled leather clutch with the D’orsay pumps worn in outfit number one. (I love how flattering a D’orsay shoe looks on one’s foot; so elegant!).
Do you think this look works? I think it really does! Great for a dressier lunch meeting, possibly?
Fifth Outfit of the Plaid Blazer Outfits:

| Blazer | Tee | Leggings | Gym shoes | Ball cap | Backpack |
This fifth of five blazer outfits is by far the most casual, but also maybe, the most fun. I took a graphic tee and popped it under the jacket. I added these fan-favorite black pointe leggings and my trusty charcoal gray Taos sneakers. Lastly, I added my black leather backpack (similar, here) from Madewell as well as my Blackhawks baseball cap. This is a perfect look for sightseeing, errands, or, just a casual Fall brunch with friends, don’t you agree?

What to Wear Under a Blazer
To make cute blazer outfits, you need to realize, that so many items can work as the layer under a blazer. For example, tee shirts and tanks work when it’s warmer. Turtlenecks, sweaters, and hoodies are wonderful as the temperatures drop. I love the look of a dressy camisole with pearls, for date night. I showed you a floral top under the plaid blazer above and of course, lots of button-down shirts work under a jacket. I love a blazer over a dress as well.
Blazers are a classic third piece that completes so many outfits. A plaid blazer is a terrific staple you should consider adding to your fall wardrobe.

Dr. Julie- You look so chic in all these looks that it’s so hard to decide which one is the best to emulate. I do like the edgy t-shirt one, though; the younger we can look, the better, right?
Anne,
The graphic tee is very fun and so easy to wear! I am definitely bringing this blazer to my fall NYC trip as it will allow me to wear a bunch of different looks with very few pieces. WIN WIN!!!
