Do you come from a family that wears patriotic looks for your 4th of July outfits?
I come by my love of red, white, and blue outfits naturally.
I can remember decorating my bike with my brothers every July 3rd.
First, we would wash our bikes, being certain to scrub our bicycle spokes with SOS pads to remove any winter rust.
Then, we would carefully thread red, white, and blue crepe paper through the tires.
We would wind more around the handles of our bikes, and lastly, we would attach streamers to the ends of the handlebars as well as the back fender.
And then we would ride around our block with our very cool streamers waving in the wind.
We. Were. Something.
Therefore, my lovely readers, it should come as no surprise that I LOVE to wear red, white, and blue for my 4th of July outfits. Today, I will show you several of my favorite looks for July 4th as well as for any summer outing. Shop your closet first and see if you have any of these pieces (I’ll bet you do). Then add one or two things from this post. The advantage of these items, is they are so classic and you’ll be able to wear them year after year on Memorial Day, July 4th, and even Labor Day.

4th of July Outfits
Outfit #1 Flag Tee, Cardigan, White Jeans, Really Cute Flats!
In this first 4th of July outfit, I am wearing a J Crew Factory vintage flag tee (M) with a royal blue J Crew Factory cotton cardigan (M). The royal blue is currently sold out and I would easily wear the same sweater but in navy blue. My jeans are Talbots straight-cropped white jeans (6). My shoes are J Crew Factory bow-backed flats (8). The color is “gold” but it is really more of a tan linen color with a tiny bit of gold streaks in the fabric (very pretty and versatile). Pro-tip: I love a nude shoe as it extends the leg line. This bow-backed flat is a great price, comfy, and very neutral with the white jeans.
Below, I paired the same cardigan with a coordinating cotton shell for a darling sweater set. Pro-tip: I would add a scarf around my neck if it was cool, or on the handle of my purse if it was warm.

Outfit #2 Ralph Lauren Denim Dress with Red Striped Tee
This denim dress has been so popular that Ralph Lauren has made it repeatedly over the last few years. It is so classic with the short sleeves and quarter placket opening. It can be worn unbelted as in this photo, or belted as seen here in this post (How to Style a Denim Dress Four Ways). I added a J McLaughlin bag (mine is from last year, but I’ve added this year’s version).
This dress is so easy to wear. It looks good here as a work look that will take you to lunch with your friends. It looks just as cute with no tee underneath and paired with sneakers for a casual Saturday outfit.

Outfit #3 A Great Blue and White Striped Oversized Shirt and Linen Pants
I LOVE this outfit! I have ALWAYS thought oversized menswear-inspired shirts are so cool! I have worn a few as tunics and as beach cover-ups (How to Wear a Linen Shirt this Summer (4 Ways). But in today’s 4th of July outfits, I really love the way this blue and white striped shirt (S) looks with these blue linen pants. The pants are from Old Navy last year (similar, here and here).
Above, I did a little quarter tuck. Mr. G.Q hates when I do this as he thinks it looks sloppy. I, however, think it looks chic and hot weather ready! (What are your thoughts? Tell me below in the comments!).
Above, is another shot of the same outfit. I am such a fan of the flat nude sandals (8) and the pockets in my linen pants. I love the slouchy comfort of this look.
Above, see how the pocket stripes go horizontally. Pro-tip: Vertical stripes are ALWAYS flattering as they elongate the body and slenderize. The pocket detail is just cute. I LOVE the drop shoulder detail as it is so interesting and elevated.
In this shot, I am wearing a half tuck (which Mr. G.Q. likes much better) and check out the side of the sleeves. They have a pleat in them! So sassy! The fabric is 70% cotton and 30% polyester. The fabric is smooth, with nice body and the collar readily stays popped up if you like that look as much as I do!

Outfit #4 J Crew Factory Red, White, and Blue Dress
You can see the wind was blowing in my front yard this morning as the slight ruffle on the dress bottom is all uneven.

Outfit #5 Talbots Patriotic Sweater and White Jeans
This red, white, and blue Talbots sweater (S) is 100% linen and was from last year’s collection. This year’s is very similar, here. I am wearing it with white jeans from J Jill (6). Pro-tip: Please note that although the stripes are horizontal, but by tucking under one side of the sweater, the stripes look more diagonal which is much more flattering.

Outfit #6 A Boho Red, White, and Blue Look with a Ruana and Embroidered Jeans
Every so often I like to wear some boho-styled items. I paired these Chico’s embroidered cropped jeans (last year’s) with my favorite Michael Stars’ white tank and a lightweight red, white, and blue ruana that I found at Amazon (similar, here). Pro-tip: Ruanas are a terrific choice as a light-weight cover-up for those who are sensitive about their upper arms. It adds coverage while still being light and breezy.
