This past weekend my friend Sarah took me out for a late birthday trip to Newport Beach, California. Since I live in two parts of the country, I get to really spread out my birthday celebrations. This one brought us to a cool restaurant for brunch and a great flower store.

Trip to Newport Beach

Fig and Olive is a beautiful spot for brunch. It’s an airy atrium-like room with wicker lighting fixtures, skylights and a handsome fireplace. The floors are tumbled travertine and they really add to the Mediterranean feel.

Our food was delicious! I rarely take food photos and this time I actually was inspired to do so because after one bite, I knew I should show this meal to my lovely readers. I had poached eggs 🥚 with prosciutto, Hollandaise sauce, and a mixed green salad 🥗. It was terrific. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked and hot.

Doesn’t this meal look luscious?! It did not disappoint. The eggs were served over a rosemary flatbread. The restaurant doesn’t serve butter, just multiple wonderful types of olive oil, thus the name.

After lunch we drove a very short distance to Roger’s Gardens (also in Newport Beach). This place is spectacular! Beautiful gardens, home decor items, fresh arrangements, gorgeous silk plants and flowers. The whole place had multiple pink and red licks of color, all as a dramatic homage to Valentine’s Day ❤️!

I wore a black herringbone vest over a black v-neck tunic with dark washed J.Jill denim leggings. For a pink accent I added a leopard silk scarf. I was feeling sick with a bit of a migraine in this photo, but I still loved this combination of pink and black leopard. I usually tie it in a simple knot and wear it pushed to one side. I wore short black suede booties to continue the dark leg line of my jeans.

The day was wonderful baring my unfortunate headache 🤕. Many thanks to my lovely friend Sarah for a great outing!

Happy Valentine’s ❤️Day to all my sweet readers!!!
