Yesterday the community in which I live decided to honor the first responders by providing individually catered lunches to them. They, in turn, came by in their emergency vehicles and had a little procession. I thought it would be neat to attend, wearing khaki shorts and a tee and started out early with my golden retriever, Bubba.

I had his leash and my hat in my hand and thought all would be well. But the temperature by noon was 106 degrees, unfortunately. So I had to bring him back inside and then set out with just Mr. G.Q.

Khaki Shorts and a Tee

I wore a new Banana Republic V-necked white cotton tee that fits just right. It’s not too boxy, nor too tight. It’s important to try on lots of different tee shirts to find the ones that flatter you the most. I prefer a V-neck to a classic crew as I think it elongates my neck. Also a V-neck is more flattering if you have a fuller bust. I think it’s important to find a tee that doesn’t pull across the chest or back, but it still has to skim over your waist to give it some definition.

If not it looks too frumpy. This V-neck isn’t too low and the fabric is a very soft 100% Supima cotton. The shorts are Talbots are from last year and they have great button details on the side of the cuff. These shorts are seven inches in length on the inseam which I think is flattering. For shoes, I wore Sperry slip-on sneakers which are very comfy. I love the use of leopard with khaki.

For accessories, I wore a great broad-brimmed hat by Walleroo. I love it because it’s white with cream trim so it goes with lots of clothes. As you can imagine with this kind of heat and almost exclusively sunny weather, hats are a big part of my wardrobe. For jewelry, I wore simple gold hoops, a gold watch (from Mr. G.Q.) and a fun tortoise shell bangle (old). Lastly, I wore this fun brown leather choker that has multiple gold charms. I think it’s fun to accessorize a simple tee with shorts as it makes the outfit look more thought out.

It was so sweet to see people standing along the club driveway, clapping, waving flags and even honking their golf cart horns. I found it so touching. These emergency workers show up every day, in all kinds of difficult circumstances. They certainly have all of our thanks and prayers for their safety!

Thank you to all the essential workers! We need you and are so grateful that you come to work each day so we can stay safe!

XO
