Happy Mother’s Day Grandma and to all the other moms in the world, Mother’s Day is just around the corner (in eleven days!) on May 9, 2021. So I thought it would be helpful to post a Mother’s Day Gift Guide which would be appropriate for any grandma, first mother, daughter, daughter-in-law, etc. in your world. In this post, I will give you lots of gift options for the moms and grandmas in your life. (All of the gift ideas have bunches of positive reviews and many have free shipping which will allow you to shop for the product conveniently and allow for easy delivery to your house in time for the big day. For the personalized gifts I would strongly urge you to “pull the trigger” very soon so as to have this type of unique gift at your home when you need it.) As of this writing all of these items are available, but “crunch time” is fast approaching!

I was at the post office yesterday and was delighted that the line was taking a bit of time as I saw several really cute Mother’s Day cards on sale so I snatched them up! Cards can be expensive, but these were a reasonable price. BUT, IF YOU REALLY WANT CUTE, CHEAP CARDS, head over to Trader Joe’s. All year round they sell cards for most occasions, each for only one dollar!!!

Who Should Celebrate Mother’s Day?

I have celebrated Mother’s Day for most of my life as I remember celebrating my mom as a kid. When I was thirteen, I was actually an accomplished seamstress and I remember making my mom two jersey skirts from fabric I bought that weekend at Carson Pirie Scott! And then my dad gave me the money to purchase coordinating tee shirts to make my mom two cute outfits! (Ah, a budding stylist, even back then!) Since then, I have learned that not everyone feels it’s necessary to celebrate this day. Some hubbies feel that since their wife isn’t THEIR mother, they shouldn’t have to buy them a gift. To that message, I say, “Live and let live”. But, since I think life should just be a series of celebrations, AND since my blog IS on Dr. Julie’s Fun Life, I say, celebrate every mother, grandmother, birth mother, Godmother, stepmother, etc. while you can! So with that sentiment in mind, here’s your list of Mother’s Day gifts:

Personalized Gifts

I believe personalized gifts are especially fun because they allows you to think of the gift giver every time you use the item. The photos of my grandkids never fail to lift my spirits. Someone sent me a platter of my babies from Etsy and I just loved it! The only problem with some of these items is it may take a few days to prepare, so don’t delay on these sweet treasures! I listed a charm bracelet and a charm necklace because many grandmas officially have “everything they need”. And for some, space is at a premium. These two gifts are small and personal, making them likely great future keepsakes.

1. Personalized Mother Bracelet

I love this sweet charm bracelet. Each child gets a charm with their name on it as well as a crystal charm with their birthstone. I love the colors of these crystals! Check this out!

2. Personalized Cutting Board

I think this would work in any home decor. I LOVE this particular cutting board with its sweet plants for each grandkid. I think it’s especially rich in its details.

3. Personalized Photo First Mother’s Day Photo Frame

This sweet picture frame will be cherished by moms and grandmoms alike. So sweet and thoughtful.

Gifts for the Grandma or Mom who Loves to Bake or Cook

4. Oven Gloves

These insulated gloves are the BOMB! I stumbled across these gems when I was at a friend’s house for dinner. When I went to retrieve my contribution to the meal that was warming in the oven, I asked her for some hot mitts. She trotted these out and I fell hard for them. I love the protection from the oven burns that can occur and I love the dexterity of gloves over mitts. Check these out!

5. Magnolia Table Cookbook

What cook doesn’t love a new delectable cookbook to peruse and inspire us to new heights in the kitchen? Jo Gaines believes there’s no better way to celebrate family and friendship than through the art of togetherness, celebrating tradition, and sharing a great meal. Magnolia Table includes 125 classic recipes—from breakfast, lunch, and dinner to small plates, snacks, and desserts—presenting a modern selection of American classics and personal family favorites. Complemented by her love for her garden, these dishes also incorporate homegrown, seasonal produce at the peak of its flavor. Inside Magnolia Table, you’ll find recipes the whole family will enjoy, such as:

This cookbook is “fun on a stick” as the recipes and photos are so inviting!

Gifts for the Grandma or Mom Who Loves to Read:

7. Yes, & I Love You by Roni Loren

As anyone who knows me can tell you, I have LOVED to read since I was a very little girl. It’s my favorite way to relax and enjoy another world for a while. I read EVERY SINGLE DAY because I love to soooo much! But I never like to read anything too serious or sad. Give me a love story, and I’m in my happy place. By the way, romantic fiction is the most popular genre of books in any bookstore. Isn’t that fun?

This first novel by Ms. Loren is such a delightful read. It’s a sweet story of Miz Poppy, the vibrant reviewer whose commentary brightens the New Orleans nightlife. But no one knows Hollyn, the real face behind the media star…or the fear that keeps her isolated. When her boss tells her she needs to add video to her blog or lose her job, she’s forced to rely on an unexpected source to help her face her fears.

When aspiring actor Jasper Deares finds out the shy woman who orders coffee every day is actually Miz Poppy, he realizes he has a golden opportunity to get the media attention his acting career needs. All he has to do is help Hollyn come out of her shell…and through their growing connection, finally find her voice. It’s a great and fun read for moms or grandmoms who want a “chick flick in a book“. I loved it and can’t wait for her future books!

8. Ladies of the House by Lauren Edmonson

Set in high society Georgetown, this irresistible family drama about two sisters and a public scandal is a modern-day retelling of Sense and Sensibility. This is a novel that celebrates sisterhood. This, too is a debut novel for this author. Buy it for the mom in your life, but maybe quickly read it first. It’s so fun!

Great for the woman who loves tea parties!

11. Coffee Gift Basket for Dog Lovers and Coffee Lovers

With double-sided non-slip surfaces, this premium exercise yoga mat has an excellent slip-resistant advantage to prevent injuries. Best of all, it comes in LOTS of colors!

13. Jo Malone Candle Red Roses Home Candle

Beautiful candles are a very popular gift for women. (I unfortunately suffer from migraines and fragrances are a big trigger for me). But I appreciate the ambiance that candles bring to the home and I especially love the quality of this brand. This Red Roses fragrance is lovely and the glass jar is very classy. This candle is seven ounces.

14. Barefoot Dreams Cozy Chic Throw Dove (Gray)

Have you ever purchased anything from Barefoot Dreams? Several years ago, my girlfriend Molly bought me an oversized black cardigan from this company and it is still so soft and is my favorite slouchy, comfy sweater to curl up in. This throw is an incredibly fluffy, drapey blanket that is so luxurious that when you’re using it, you don’t want to ever get up from the couch! I bought this very throw for my daughter-in-law for Christmas, and she loved it, as do my grandsons! So cozy. I know it’s pricey, but it’s ON SALE today for 40% off! Your mom or grandmom will love it!

Well, that’s a wrap of Mother’s Day gifts for Grandma! Please do me a favor and tell me which would make the biggest hit as a Mother’s Day gift for Nanna. And please let me know in the comments below if I missed the boat on other cool gift ideas.

I hope all the mothers reading this post will have a wonderful Mother’s Day! I know I would MOST enjoy hearing from all of my kids and grandkids on this special day. Did you know that Mother’s Day is the most popular day of the year for “phoning home”? I’m heading home to Chicago for the weekend and hope to see the three kids who live nearby and their lovely families. I’m so glad that Mr. G.Q. and I are fully vaccinated making it safer to travel home by air. (Of course, we’ll socially distance and mask up!) On Mother’s Day 2020, due to the pandemic, we were unable to see any of our kids, so this year will be particularly special. It’s truly lovely to be able to share in celebrating Mother’s Day with my daughters and daughter-in-law. They all do a great job in their roles as Moms.

XO

Dr. Julie (Mom, Step-Mom, and Grandma, Soon to be Mother-in-Law)
