I recently went to the Atlantis property in Paradise Island, Bahamas, and thought I would share a cute bathing suit and cover-up look that was a big hit with Mr. G.Q. and my family.

Bathing Suits (to Wear Under the Boho Beach Cover-ups)
First, I should start by telling you that my favorite color is pink. So when I spotted this suit, I had to try it!

The suit is very comfortable with full backside coverage. The top has an attractive twist to the bodice and full padded cups for modesty (an absolute “must-have” for me).
The suit is made of 85% recycled nylon which is great for our planet. It also has nice ruching down the front and excellent tummy-compressing to the front of the suit. Both of these features make it a terrific suit for middle-aged figures. It also has adjustable straps which adds to the support.
That’s the good news! The bad news is I bought this last season from Nordstrom. This year, the exact suit is STILL AVAILABLE but not in the pink 😞! It comes in beautiful red, navy (called night sky), and black. I truly love them all!

I love the style of boho beach cover-ups as I find them soft and romantic in their look. The flowy nature of the style is also forgiving to the middle-aged figure.

As for my Roller Rabbit coverup, this is a wonderful purchase for you to consider. It has both shades of pink and red so the red bathing suit would still work with it. In addition, the coverup is made of very soft, lightweight cotton. It washes like a dream (placed in a lingerie bag, like this one) and washed on delicate. I hang it to dry.
One style of boho beach cover-up is my coverup. It is called a Kurta. A Kurta is a traditional item of clothing typical of India. It has a loose, soft cut, a split V-neck, and sleeves. It has a contemporary cut and a signature hand-beaded accent at the side slit. It’s the perfect top for a sunny beach day or layering over white jeans or shorts. I am wearing the Amanda Kurta style which is 31 inches from shoulder to hem. (I am 5’4″). If you would like more coverage, consider this tunic which is 32.5 inches in length.
A longer version is this one. It’s 51 inches from the shoulder and would look terrific with the navy bathing suit discussed above. Another darling navy tunic that’s 34 inches in length is this one. And it comes in white with navy embroidery here.
Crochet Beach Coverups
Having just returned from my trip to the Atlantis resort, I would be remiss not to mention the large number of crochet beach coverups I saw. I was surprised by how remarkably camouflaging this style of coverup was. This particular one is especially classy and is in my cart for my next trip to the beach.
How to Accessorize Your Boho Beach Cover-ups
I wear my boho beach cover-ups with neutral flat sandals and use this Torie Richards tote, or this Roller Rabbit one that is on sale, reversible, and coordinates with my coverup perfectly! And I found several other more moderately priced options: here, here, here, and here.
I’m not a fan of flip-flops as I have very tender feet. Thus I tend to wear neutral tan or honey colored sandals of varying styles all summer. Here are a few of my favorite styles: here, here, here, here,
As for beach hats, I wore this baseball cap or this sun hat which is so easy to pack. A few other ones I have my eye on are this one, this one, and this one. Which one(s) is your favorite? Tell me below.
Were you impressed by my tan?
As a retired dermatologist, in the past, I always went on beach 🏖️ vacations and just had white skin. But then some of my favorite bloggers (I’m looking at you KariAnne 👀) turned me onto wearing self-tanner. This is the exact product I use: here.
What I do is simple:
1. Shave my legs.
2. Gently exfoliate my skin with a soft wet washcloth and mild soapy water.
3. Rinse off and pat dry.
4. Open a wipe and thoroughly wipe it all over my skin on my whole body. On this step, I only lightly rub the wipe on my knees, elbows, and tops of my feet.
5. Lastly, I then wash my hands and feet with a bit of soap and water so they don’t get too much color on them.
That’s it! It takes a few hours for the color to develop. I repeat it for 2-3 days before my trip and repeat it as necessary on my trip! It does NOT smell and it does NOT stain my towels, clothes, or sheets!
